There's something chewing at Dixie. What, she can't rightly say. But something that keeps needling at her.

Is she punishing herself for being too happy? Is she trying to make trouble where there is none?

She doesn't do anything, instead going to their shared room and unpacking the trunk.

Brisco's not the most experienced guy when it comes to serious relationships, but he can tell when something's not as right as it should be.

"What's going on?"

She sits back on her heels and pats the heavy trunk, fiddling with the padlocks. She plucks a pin from her hair and starts working it open, for the sake of speed.

"This just came in from Sarasota. And do you know what's in Sarasota?"

"... No, I can't say that I do."

He feels a little uncomfortably off his guard here.

Well, that's about as uncomfortable as she feels. "You know how I took care of a lot of the smaller girls at the orphanage? Well - this is from my sister, Dolly. The one with the singing act who's been down in the panhandle lately."

"Yeah, I remember you talking about her. What's she doing in Sarasota?"

"Well," Dixie sighs, "she's coming west again to Reno. Turns out she struck it rich for a couple of weeks and she's planning on opening a casino down there. And knowing what I know about Dolly..." she shifts her shoulders, "I won't be surprised if she's the one who ends up out of luck."

His brow furrows.

"So what are you going to do? From what you've told me, it doesn't sound like you'd be able to talk her out of it."

"Well," she sighs. "First I'm going to write her a letter finding out what time her train's pulling in next month. Then I'm gonna try to be there." She gives him a crooked smile. "Knowing Dolly, she's going to be doing my act, with a...Dolly flare. Might as well show them the genuine article in case she's not as popular as she thinks she'll be."

The resentment in her voice is clear.
